New music collaboration
with Tucson Winter Chamber Music Festival

Supporting the creation of new music and new performance opportunities is perhaps the most important thing that I do.
— Bernadette Harvey

Bernadette works closely with composers in a truly collaborative spirit. One example of her new music collaborations exists via the Arizona Friends of Chamber Music. This organisation sponsors the Tucson Winter Chamber Music Festival, directed by the international cellist Peter Rejto, in which Bernadette performs yearly. Running for 25 years, this festival is an incredible success story afforded by privately its funded commissioning program, the largest in the world. It is unique in that it raises funds by direct appeal to its audience members.

Bernadette has participated in three chamber music commissions since 2009, performing the world premieres of Carl Vine’s Piano Quintet Fantasia, Pierre Jalbert’s Piano Quartet Secret Alchemy and his Piano Quintet. Not only did she have the opportunity to work with some of the world’s most brilliant performers – like the Shanghai and Jupiter Quartets – in these particular works, but with the composers too, who spend a week with the musicians in preparation for their live performance at the festival.

New CD coming soon

Shortly, Bernadette will be releasing a CD in commemoration of the 25th Tucson Winter Chamber Music Festival which will feature 4 past chamber music commissions: Steven Stucky’s Piano Quartet, Pierre Jalbert’s Piano Quartet and Quintet and Carl Vine’s Fantasia. She will collaborate with the Jupiter Quartet from the USA on this recording.
